It reads, "Office of the Street Car Employes' Association, 56 and 57 Kanter Building, Detroit Mich., Oct. 14, 1893. GRAND RALLY. TO ALL STREET CAR MEN OF DETROIT, There will be a Meeting of the Street Car Employes of Detroit, at Fraternity Hall, at 12 o'clock Tonight, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14, 1893. The verso is filled out, listing Reading as having fifteen years of experience as a locomotive engineer and being in active service for the Grand River Valley Railroad.

The body of the letter is as follows: Dear Sir & Bro You are accepted as a member of this aso'n at in last regular, and in closed please find By Law book and member ship card. Your Frat, O.H. Dandell Sec'ry The message is dated March 5, 1899. The letter is printed on Musicians' Benevolent and Protective Association, Local 5 letterhead bearing the name of the organization, meeting times, names of governing personnel, and the seal of the American Federation of Labor.

- 45 RPM Record. Contains "Song of the Teamsters Union" on side one, and the "Pledge of Allegiance" on side two. The record was released by Amron Records with copyright by Abe Olman Music, Inc., New York 19, N. Y. The record label is printed in blue text on a yellow background. The record is stored in a 7" x 7" white paper sleeve that is printed in blue, green, yellow, and black. The cover depicts a truck driver glancing to another trucker in his side view mirror, and contains monochromatic photo inserts of James R. Hoffa and John F. English. The words of the Song of the Teamsters Union are printed on the back.

- Manual. Manual containing the articles of association, scale of minimum pay, by-laws, and directory of the Musicians' Benevolent and Protective Association, Local 5. The book also contains advertisements for local businesses, a list of the organization's officers, a calendar, a schedule of night car service, and several lined pages for notes. The book is bound in a brown material, and bears the combined seal of the organization and the American Federation of Labor.

- Magazine article that has been torn out from "Labor Day Review," pages 23-32. The article is entitled "The Council of Trades and Labor Unions and the Labor Movement of Detroit. By David A. Boyd, Statistician." The magazine text and advertisements are printed in black ink on slightly yellowed paper. Page 31 includes a list of presidents, secretaries, and delegates of the Detroit Council of Trades and Labor Unions from 1880 to 1900. Presumably, all of the business advertisers are supportive of the trade unions and labor movement. Several of the advertisements do mention "union made" or "union shop."

- Print of a charter for Local Union No. 2 of the Wood, Wire and Metal Lathers' International Union. The charter shows a figure holding flags and a shield with the message "The Injury to One is the Concern of All" on the top left and the seal of the Wood, wire and Metal Lathers' International Union on the bottom left. The text of the charter is as follows: "Organized December 15th 1899 at Detroit Michigan, U.S.A., Wood Wire and Metal Lathers' International Union To all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Be it known that by authority in me vested as president of the Wood Wire and Metal Lathers' International Union, and in obedience to its constitution, and after careful investigation, I have this day approved and do by these presents issue This Charter unto Mortuna Bond, M.D. Kenyon, Thos. Wilkins, Walter Baker A.F. Liebig, George Rolder, Thos. Gibbons. Hereby constituting them and their associates and successors Local Union No. 2 of the Wood Wire and Metal Lathers' International Union in the City of Cleveland County of Cuyahoga State or Province of Ohio. With these powers delegated them and for the faithful performance of the obligations required of them by the constitution and laws of our organization. Given under our hand and seal this 15th day of Dec. 1999 [sic] in the City of Cleveland O., U.S.A. CJ Bracken, General President ____ General Secy-Treas. 'And they said let us rise up and build. The verso has four spaces to record payment of quarterly dues in 1899. The first quarter is filled in--75 [cents?] paid on March 3rd to O.H. Dandell. The card is printed on yellow paper.

- Sepia-toned photo of two men in conductor's uniforms, likely Detroit United Railway workers, collecting funds to support the Boston street car strike along the sidewalk on the west side of Woodward Avenue between Atwater Street and the riverfront. The men hold tambourines and stand beside a small cart bearing a sign that reads, "Help the Striking Street Car Men of Boston, Mass." Several other people stand nearby including a boy who appears to be selling newspapers. H.D. Edwards and Company stands in the background.
