"The first Oldsmobile built by the Olds Motor Vehicle Company, organized in 1897, was the 'horseless carriage' turned out that same year. it was produced in a tiny shop on River Street in Lansing, Michigan, and was the predecessor to millions of Oldsmobiles which since have been manufactured in the vast plants of what is now the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors Corporation. It is now permanently housed in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., as an example of early automotive pioneering."

According to a descendant of the Nico family, the person in white at the curb is Peter Nico and the photograph was taken on a 4th of July sometime in the 1930s. Peter is cleaning out a hole at the curb to place an American flag there (which can be seen leaning against the awning). The Nico family lived above the store at this time. Two copies. It provided nearly an acre of office space for 250 employees of the Michigan Farm Bureau, Farm Bureau Services Inc., Farmers Petroleum, Cooperative, Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company, and Michigan Association of Farmer Cooperatives. Other buildings on the 40 acre Farm Bureau Center were: Farm Bureau Services one story warehouse providing an acre of warehouse facilities, Farm Bureau Services Seed Processig Plant, FBS Lansing Branch elevator, Farmers Petroleum Cooperative Warehouse and garage.
