- This collection consists of one large-format newspaper-clipping scrapbook that was compiled by a descendant of R. E. Olds. The clippings primarily represent the activities of the Grand River Improvement Committee, which was formed in the early 1960s by then-Lansing mayor Willard I. Bowerman to address river cleanup and related issues. Clippings also reflect similar activities in other cities in Michigan, the U.S., and internationally. The majority date from 1963 to 1965.

- Six snapshots of reconstruction of the Michigan Avenue Bridge in downtown Lansing, looking north up the Grand River. A partially completed pedestrian bridge can be seen in some of the views, as can the BWL Ottawa Street power plant. These photographs were taken prior to the construction of the Lansing Center, which was completed in 1987. Taken by Dennis C. Cullinan of Red Bell Photography, Lansing, Michigan.

- Photograph of steamer "Pickwick" on Grand River, Lansing. One of a line of steamers plying the Grand River in the 1870's between the dam at North Lansing, the Mineral Well House, and Benton Bridge. The steamer line was owned and operated by Captain A. P. Loomis. Other boats of the fleet were the "Sea Bird" and "Minnie Cass." The boats were very popular and could be boarded from a landing at the Michigan Avenue bridge over the Grand River.

Several faint letters on the front of the photo mat may be the stamp of photographer Fred J. Wagenvoord, who created a souvenir book of similar photographs from the 1904 flood. The mat is also stamped "Foot Allegan S. looking North." On back the name "John Allen" is written in pencil. Gift of Janice Bedford Nagele.
