On June 9, 1989, Council ordered that the attended parking operations were to be eliminated. On the marquee of the Michigan Theater, "Casey's Shadow" with Walter Matthau is listed; the film was released in US theaters in March of 1978.

A reflection of Mead Hall can be seen in the windows at left. All of the people in the photograph are not identified. The photograph was taken prior to 1896 when Jenison sold the store to Reynolds, Jewett, and Knapp. This building was torn down for the construction of the W. T. Grant store in the early 1930s.
