- Dorothy Doyle recalls her service in the United States Army Nurse Corps. Doyle says that she enlisted in the Army in 1942 after spending ten years in civilian nursing and talks about basic training and her duty stations in the U.S. and later in New Hebrides, New Caledonia, New Zealand and a stint in Saipan after the battle of Iwo Jima. She also talks about the complicated social dynamics in the army, racism, and the trials of nursing in field hospitals. Doyle is interviewed by Kathryn Cavanaugh.

Sam talks about his union involvement, Black Men in Unions, service as Recreation and Conservation chair, and the Local 602 picnic.

- Marian Cyberski talks about her service in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp during World War Two and says that she was inspired to enlist after seeing the movie "The shores of Tripoli." Cyberski talks about being stationed at field hospitals in Rockhampton, Indooroopilly, and Brisbane, Australia, treating mostly malaria and battle fatigue patients, and originally shipping out to Australia on the luxury liner SS Lurline. She also talks about her daily life in Australia, vacationing in Sydney, leaving Australia on a ship which contained many Australian war brides and crying babies, arriving home in September 1945, and getting married in November to a man whom she had met as a patient.

- Hmong immigrant and former soldier Tom Vue discusses emigrating from Laos to the U.S. via a camp in Thailand. He discusses taking command of 1200 troops in the rain forests of Laos after Hmong General Vang Pao emigrated to the US in 1975. Vue talks about their defeat by the communists in 1977 and his flight from Laos to Thailand. He also speaks about coming to Lansing, MI with his family and working in social services as a translator and refugee interviewer.

- Description:
- Dr. William Strampel D.O., Dean of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, talks about his youth, education and career in the military, medicine and academia. Strampel says that he was drafted into the U.S. Army, served in Vietnam and later re-enlisted and pursued a career in military medicine which included serving in the Army's Special Forces Group One and commanding the Fort Riley Hospital. He came to MSU in 1999 and says that he quickly impressed the university administration with his budget and financial expertise and was made Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002. Strampel also talks about the growth in the College during his tenure and the lessons he has learned over his long career. Strampel is interviewed by MSU History Professor Emeritus Charles Gliozzo for the Michigan State University Faculty Emeriti Association Oral History Project.
