- A young boy marches with a group of Russian prisoners of war under German guard and into captivity. The Austro-Hungarian s incarcerated thousands of Serbian and Russian boys during the war and worked with the Association to provide relief services to these juveniles.

- Allied prisoners of war had strict orders forbidding fraternization with German guards. There were few restrictions, however, on POW attempts at improving their relations with guard dogs. In this drawing, a British officer and a Russian officer offer some scraps to a guard dog, while a German sentry stands watch at the compound fence.

- Russian prisoners wash their hands and faces at troughs in an open air shed at a German prison camp, probably at Hahnoefersand. Daily cleaning was important to prevent the outbreak of disease in crowded prison facilities.

- This is a portrait of a Polish prisoner in the Russian Army from the government district of Vilna, incarcerated in the prison camp at Altdamm. He was captured early in the war and would spend years in confinement.

- A stout German non-commissioned officer counts off Russian prisoners during a roll call at Buetow. Note the wooden barrack under construction in the background. The POWs were responsible for building new quarters inside the prison camp.

- This photograph aptly shows the demoralization of Russian soldiers by 1917. Upon hearing news that German cavalry had broken through the lines in Galacia, these infantrymen threw down their arms and fled headlong to the rear past this Polish church.

- Austrian dragoons intercept and ride down two members of a Russian Cossack patrol. The Austrians have drawn their sabres as the Cossacks flee in terror. Cavalry patrols often captured enemy soldiers surprised by the sudden appearance of dragoons or Uhlans.

- This thirty-plus car train carries thousands of Russian prisoners of war into Austro-Hungarian captivity. The train is crossing a river in the Carpathian Mountains. Both the box cars and open cars are crammed with Russian POW's. The Austrian guards have sentry boxes, which provide them with some relief from the elements.

- A French officer, a member of the Franco-Serbian Military Mission, informs the Serbian POW's at Haskovo that Bulgaria had signed an armistice in September 1918 and that they would be sent home. The wagon in the center of the photograph carried the prisoners' daily rations and moved dead bodies to the cemetery.
