- French, Belgian, and Russian prisoners assemble in the prison compound at Neumuenster for roll call in front of the camp barracks. The presence of armed German guards suggest that these men will serve in labor detachments outside the facility during the day. A group of Allied medics are assembled in the middle of the photograph with their supplies.

- Russian prisoners stand in front of earthen barracks in the prison camp at Hammerstein. Winter weather in eastern Germany was severe and the Germans constructed barracks in the ground in an attempt to keep the quarters warmer. The Allies protested against the incarceration of POW's in these types of barracks on health concerns due to the lack of ventilation in these quarters.

- A thriving commercial district emerged on the infield of the race track at Ruhleben. This drawing shows Bond Street, which featured Ye Olde Pond Shops--the canteen, outfitters, and the police station.

- Muslim prisoners at Zossen-Wuensdorf (Halbmondlager) sit on prayer rugs in the prison compound facing Mecca. The POW's have removed their footwear and listen to the address. An iman stands on a platform to the right, addressing the faithful.

- British enlisted prisoners participate in the YMCA Sports Day competition at the prison camp at Cellelager before a large crowd of spectators of Russian POW's and German officers. Note the construction of a new barrack in the background.

- This photograph shows the exterior of the fortress, including the gate to the inner courtyard at Wuerzburg. The fortress served as a prison facility for Allied officers and offered tight security. The Germans tended to assign Allied officers to fortresses for incarceration because they had more time on their hands in relation to enlisted men (officers were not required to work) and had more incentive to escape confinement.

- This camp visitation permit was issued to Archibald C. Harte on April 2, 1915 by the prison commandant at Cassel-Niederzwehren. Harte used these visits to investigate conditions in German prison camps and promote the establishment of a War Prisoners' Aid program for Allied prisoners of war. Harte's diplomacy would eventually pay off as German authorities eventually decided to permit neutral Association secretaries to begin YMCA programs in prison camps.

- This is a general view of the prison camp at Ebersdorf bei Chemnitz which shows the POW barracks, the enclosed athletic field, and the camp fence. The Germans built this facility shortly before the war and incarcerated Allied prisoners here in 1914. Note the prisoners by the entrance of the building to the right.
