- Sepia-toned photo of the exterior of the New Empire Theatre as taken from the east side of Woodward Avenue, facing west. The Charlie Chaplin film, "The Champion," is advertised on the marquee, by a stand-up of Chaplin, and by several posters hung around the entrance. Other posters advertise the films, "His Desperate Deed," and "The Battle of Frenchman's Run." Field's Cloaks, Suits, Furs, and Dresses, is located in the storefront to the south of the theater. On the north side of the theater are St. John's Arbor, Brown's Fine Candies, and Woolworth's. A row of light poles, each holding five streetlights are along the sidewalk in the foreground. The photo is mounted on a page for a photo album, complete with a flap for binding. "13055," is printed in the lower right corner. A Manning Brothers, Commercial Photographers stamp is on the verso, along with the handwritten note, "W.S. Woodward between State & Grand River."

Printed on verso: Detroit Opera House and Palmer Fountain. - This beautiful fountain was donated to the city by Mrs. Thos. W. Palmer several years ago. It is located on the Campus Martius which was reserved as a breathing spot in the "Governor and Judges" plan, adopted for the city in its earliest history. The Opera House is one of the finest in the country and caters to high class shows only. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Apr 10, 1910.

The films, "High and Dizzy," and "Guilty of Love," as well as a performance by vaudeville duo Count Perrone and Trix Oliver entitled "Song Symphony," are advertised on the marquee. A sign hung from the roof of the theater also advertises the availability of chop suey. A haberdasher is located in the storefront to the left of the theater, and several signs which read, "Kobe," are posted in the window of the storefront to the right.

Signs on the facade of the Theatre Comique declare, "Best show in town for the money," "Stay as long as you like," and "High class continuous performance." The Kaiserhof is visible on the left side of the theatre. 26. Fisher Theater

- View of entrance to the Fisher Theater housed within the Fisher Building in Detroit, Michigan. "In the late 1920s, the Fishers hired master architect Albert Kahn to design a building as both a philanthropic and commercial investment, the Fisher brothers wanted to spare no expense, and Kahn designed a $9 million Art Deco masterpiece that lavished 1/4 of its expense on art work and luxury materials ... designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989, the Fisher Building features a 28-story set-back Art Deco tower, the interior is bisected by a 44 foot high barrel-vaulted arcade and every inch is opulently decorated with bronze, gold leaf, and over forty types of exotic marbles mined in quarries in Africa, Italy, and Carthage, Missouri," from The National Register of Historic Places website.

- Exterior view of the Grand Circus Theater on Broadway and Madison streets in Detroit, Michigan. Originally the Capitol Theater designed by C. Howard Crane it opened in 1922. The theater's most recent incarnation is the Detroit Opera House. "The Capitol Theater was resplendently decorated in the Italian Renaissance style with lavish crystal chandeliers, frescoes, brass fixtures, marble stairways and drinking fountains, rich rose-red Italian damask was used for the main-stage curtain and draperies throughout the house, most of these features are present today in the Detroit Opera House ... after several years of near decay the theater underwent a minor restoration in the 1960, the renamed and reconfigured 3,367-seat Grand Circus Theater became a movie house once again. The Grand Circus Theater closed its doors in 1978 and reopened under the same name in 1981," from the Detroit Opera Houses website.

- The Ramona Theatre Pavilion was built in 1897 on the West Side of the Park on Lakeside Drive, overlooking Reeds Lake. It was an extremely popular summertime venue that could seat 1,700 people. Popular plays, musicals, Vaudevillian and burlesque acts, silent films, talkies and favorite local and national entertainers, such as Will Rogers, appeared at the theatre during its heyday. The theater was torn down in 1949. Ca. 1900.

Designed by architect John Eberson designed in an "atmospheric/Italian Renaissance style, and resembled a palazzo, complete with a spectacular auditorium decorated to look like an outdoor courtyard. Its soaring grand lobby was equally stunning, complete with a grand marble staircase and not one but three great arched windows over front doors. A four-story vertical marquee spelled out the theater's name boldly over Grand River Avenue," from Cinema Treasures web site. The theater which could seat 2800 people opened in 1925 and was demolished in 1999.

"The 4,038-seat Michigan Theatre was the only theater by famous Chicago architects Rapp & Rapp in the city of Detroit ... the theater was connected to the Bagley Avenue Building (now called the Michigan Building), the theater was extremely detailed, from its auditorium to its four-story lobby, complete with columns, paintings and sculptures imported from Europe ... the theater had to be carved into a parking garage because studies on the building showed it would endanger the soundness of the adjoining office building, because of this, much of the theater remains today, such as its ticket booth, four-story lobby, proscenium arch, part of the upper balcony, and even the red curtain," from The Buildings of Detroit website.

- Exterior view of the Riviera Theater on Grand River Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. Designed by architect John Eberson designed in an "atmospheric/Italian Renaissance style, and resembled a palazzo, complete with a spectacular auditorium decorated to look like an outdoor courtyard. Its soaring grand lobby was equally stunning, complete with a grand marble staircase and not one but three great arched windows over front doors. A four-story vertical marquee spelled out the theater's name boldly over Grand River Avenue," from Cinema Treasures web site. The theater which could seat 2800 people opened in 1925 and was demolished in 1999.

"The 4,038-seat Michigan Theatre was the only theater by famous Chicago architects Rapp & Rapp in the city of Detroit ... the theater was connected to the Bagley Avenue Building (now called the Michigan Building), the theater was extremely detailed, from its auditorium to its four-story lobby, complete with columns, paintings and sculptures imported from Europe ... the theater had to be carved into a parking garage because studies on the building showed it would endanger the soundness of the adjoining office building, because of this, much of the theater remains today, such as its ticket booth, four-story lobby, proscenium arch, part of the upper balcony, and even the red curtain," from The Buildings of Detroit website.
