- One street map of Detroit and Eastern Wayne County that was printed by the Federal Lithograph Company of Detroit. The multicolor map is printed on white paper at a scale of 1.2 inches = 1 mile. It shows streets, street names, city and township boundaries, section numbers, railroad and streetcar lines, and the locations of new residential subdivisions and industrial sites in Dearborn and southwest Detroit. Several tables along the left side of the sheet give statistics on population growth, projected city boundaries in 1930, and leading industries. The map features residential developments of the "Glover Watson Organization" and the company name appears prominently in several inset advertisements across the map.

The registration form is printed in black text on white paper and includes blank lines that have been completed in handwritten black ink text. It indicates that a copyright was issued to the Richmond & Backus Company of Detroit for a "Book or Form" which is described in more specific detail in handwritten text. The registration form was signed in the lower right corner by "A. R. [Ainsworth Rand] Spofford, Librarian of Congress." An oval-shaped embossed seal of the Copyright Office is located in the upper left corner of the form.

- 2-page letter written by Frederick K. Stearns, President of Frederick Stearns & Co. It was typewritten in blue text onto slightly yellowed, thin linen paper which has a watermark that shows a shield emblem with the words, "Perfection Linen." The letter is dated Dec. 31st, 1900, and the last page is signed in black ink, "Frederick Kimball Stearns." The body of the letter gives a brief overview of the principal persons and companies that were involved with pharmaceutical manufacturing in Detroit in the 19th century. Both pages have several handwritten corrections.

- Certificate of election certifying Hazen S. Pingree's election as Governor of Michigan in 1898. It is affixed with the gold seal of the State of Michigan and red, white, and blue ribbon on the bottom left. The text of the certificate is as follows: "State of Michigan Certificate of Election We the undersigned, State Canvassers, from a careful examination of the Election Returns from all the Counties in the State of Michigan, as received by the Secretary of State do determine, as the result of our investigation, that Hazen S. Pingree has been, by the greatest number of votes, duly elected to the office of Governor of said State for the full term of Two Years from the first day of January, A.D. eighteen hundred and ninety-nine at the General Election holden on the eighth day of November A.D. 1898. Witness our Hands, at Lansing, this fifteenth day of December A.D. 1898. Washington Gardner Secretary of State Geo. A. Steel State Treasurer. Wm. A. French Com'r State Land Office. State of Michigan Office of the Secretary of State. I do hereby Certify, That I have compared the foregoing copy of the determination of the Board of State Canvassers with the original on file in this office, and that it is a correct transcript therefrom, and of the whole of such original. - Plan for the Konaske Airship, designed by Art Konaske of 180 Mack Street, stapled to a two page note to Russell A. Alger Jr. written on Hotel Griswold stationery, and dated February 17, 1916. The plan shows a profile cut-away of a small military airship with a enclosed gondola with two seats--one for the pilot, and the other for a gunner. The airship's balloon is outfitted with an airfoil, and both vertical and horizontal propellers are employed for lift and propulsion. The note reads: Mr. Russell A. Alger, Dear Sir, Enclosed find blueprint circular of airship, which I hope may prove of interest to you. It is going to be a sure winner and as I am told, you are "Pres. of Aviation Club." Would be glad to have interview at your convenience to explain details and mfg. etc. A phone call will find me at above hotel--Rm 416 for appointment for interview which shall try to make of much interest to you. A admittance, and main floor seat ticket to the Labor Contest Carnival held at the Detroit Light Guard Armory between Wednesday November 28th and December 4th by the Detroit Federation of Labor. The ticket bears a printing of the signature of Louis W. Buckley, Manager. The verso is printed with "Special Grocers' Ticket, Good only Friday, Nov. 30th, 1906. Compliments of National Grocer Company, "Light House Coffee," and has been stamped with the seal of the Detroit Federation of Labor.

Pingree, dated December 4, 1903, written to accompany an account statement four promissory notes on the remaining cost of the construction of her mausoleum. - One plan sheet entitled, "Cabin Plan for Strs. 59/60 for Ft. & P.M. [Flint & Pere Marquette] R.R." The drawing consists of black and red ink on linen and shows a plan view of the proposed cabin layout for the wooden-hulled, propeller-driven, passenger steamships. The plan was prepared at a scale of 1/4 inch = 1 foot by Frank E. Kirby for the Detroit Dry Dock Company and is dated May, 1882. (Steamer numbers 59 and 60 were the Detroit Dry Dock hull numbers for the passenger steamships that were known as F.&P.M. No. 1 and F.&P.M. No. 2, respectively.)

- One set of architectural drawings of a residential house. The drawings (Job 276) consist of brown and black ink on linen and shows a 3-story, residential house. Some brown pencil shading has also been added in order to highlight the architectural features. This drawing, shown at a scale of 1/4 inch = 1 foot, was part of a set of nine sheets that were prepared by "J. Lawson Miller, Architect," for the "Roney Land Company." The house is located on Hawthorne Road near Lake Shore Boulevard.

Grant by the Republican State Committee," is printed on the interior on the left. The menu is printed in pink on the right. The verso is signed by Ulysses S. Morrison, president of the Dow Portable Electric Assistant Company of Braintree, Massachusetts to the Electric Service and Appliance Company on 166 Randolph Street, dated December 11, 1901, written in reply to a previous letter from the company. Morrison, or someone writing on his behalf states that "our Mr. Morrison" will be leaving on a trip on Friday, but he will call from his trip if possible. Additionally the letter says that there has been a delay in the manufacturing of the six inch park coils which the Electric Service and Appliance Company has ordered. Morrison's signature closes the letter. It is printed on Dow Portable Electric Assistant Company letterhead, which includes an engraving of a portable receiver built into a carrying case.

The chart was drawn at a scale of 1:40,000 and covers several miles of the St. Mary's River both upstream and downstream of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, with information such as soundings in feet, river bottom characteristics, shoreline details, lighthouses, and sailing directions. The chart was printed in black ink on white paper and was published by the Bureau of Topographical Engineers of the War Department (later known as the Army Corps of Engineers). Small printed text in the lower right corner shows "Engraved by W. H. Dougal." Small printed text in the lower left corner shows "Reduced for Engraving by J. U. Mueller." - Hardcover book containing the handwritten minutes from the meetings of Mechanics Company No. 8, as well as its constitution and by-laws, brief accounts of several fires, and some financial records spanning its founding on December 6, 1848 to its dissolution on April 14, 1856, in protest of an ordinance that forbid the company from pulling their hand-drawn fire apparatus along sidewalks. The passages are attributed to the group's secretaries--in order--C.F. Morris, H. Willson, Alexander Lambie, D.C. Whitman, E.P. Warden, John McNamara, Thomas McWilliams, James Cavanagh, and Isaac C. Wallace. The pages following the dissolution of the company include math problems and multiplication tables, the lyrics to the ballad "She Was Bred in Old Kentucky," a drawing resembling a plumbing diagram, the outline of several pressed leaves, and several geometric sketches. The book is bound in a brown cover and "Record," and "Mechanics Fire Co. No. 8," are printed on the its spine. A handwritten inscription on a front flyleaf reads, "April 12, 1856, This book is presented to Isaac C. Wallace by Mechanic Fire Company No. 8."

The specifications (Job 244) are bound in a booklet that has two brass fasteners at the top. The cover is made of heavy off-white paper that has handwritten text for the title. Printed text beneath the title shows the name, "J. Lawson Miller, Successor to Falkinburg & Miller, Architect." The cover interior and outside back cover have printed advertisements for many contractors, tradesmen, and building materials suppliers. - This 3-page letter was typewritten in blue text on slightly yellowed paper by Frederick F. Ingram who was the President of the Public Lighting Commission. Each page shows the letterhead of the Public Lighting Commission of the City of Detroit and is dated "December 31, 1900." The paper has a crown and shield watermark with the words, "Pure Linen Stock." The body of the letter gives some history of electric lighting in the city, the creation of the lighting commission, and costs. The last page is entitled, "A Prophesy," where the president predicts that garbage and refuse will one day provide the fuel source for the lighting plant and that there will also be a free bath/wash house as part of the plant. All three pages have several typewritten corrections and the last page is signed in black ink by the president, "F. F. Ingram."

- Color 16mm film reel containing "Where Else But Detroit." a promotional film, intended to draw conventions to the city, produced for the Metropolitan Detroit Convention and Visitors Bureau by D'Arrcy-MacManus and Masius, Incorporated. The film primarily features a narrator speaking over shots of the city, but occasion also features individuals speaking briefly about their experiences with conventions in the city. Following an introductory montage showing highlights of the city, the film first focuses on the Renaissance Center. The complex's atrium, swimming pool, Cartier jewelry story, a display of glassware, a clothing store, and the Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse are all shown. The next section is centered on Cobo Hall and Joe Louis Arena. The Detroit International Auto Show, and workers setting up for an SAE convention are featured. The voice-over emphasizes the smooth relationship between labor and management here. Regarding Joe Louis Arena, the narrator states that it is "ultra-modern," and cites its use by the Detroit Red Wings, and for the 1980 Republican National Convention. In the film's third section, the narrator explains that there is a plentiful amount of hotel space in the area over shots of the Pontchartrain, the Hyatt Regency Dearborn, the Southfield Holiday Inn, the Dearborn Inn, a Ramada Inn, the Renaissance Center, the Hotel St. Regis, a Hilton, the Richelieu Inn in Windsor, a Sheraton, a Stouffer's, the Book-Cadillac, and Somerset Inn. The film then notes the convenience of metro Detroit's freeway system, and a member of the Prince Hall Affiliated Shriners appears on camera to state that his organization has come to the city seven times. Several shots and a brief explanation are then dedicated to the Ethnic Festivals in Hart Plaza. The next segment of the film concerns Ford Auditorium, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. As the Orchestra performs the 1812 Overture, footage of the musicians is intercut with that of cars being built along an automotive assembly line. Several shots of and taken from a trolley of the Detroit Citizen's Railway follow this sequence. After a brief transition shot of the Dearborn Hyatt Regency with its the monorail track in place, the film then moves to Greenfield Village for the next short segment. Afterward the narrator notes Detroit's central location for airline flights. Entertainment and nightlife is the focus of the next section; Greektown, a disco, the Fisher Theatre, the Music Hall, Yesterday's, and Meadowbrook are all shown in quick shots. Then, a man appears on camera on the Rainbow Escalator of the Detroit Science Center to note that SME has already booked an event in Detroit in the year 2001. The Cultural Center then becomes the next area of the city spotlighted. This segment includes footage of a concert in the Detroit Institute of Arts' Kresge Court, the Paint Creek Folklore Society performing on the Streets of Old Detroit in the Detroit Historical Museum, and a night time event happening on Woodward Avenue between the Detroit Institute of Arts and the main branch of the Detroit Public Library. There is also a quick aerial shot of the neighborhood, and a shot of the exterior of the Children's Museum, and several shots of exhibits inside of the Detroit Science Center. The narrator also notes that Cranbrook is a short drive away. Hart Plaza, and the Detroit Zoo are receive brief spotlights. The next major theme the film tackles is sports. The Detroit Tigers, the Red Wings, are shown and as an excerpt of the promotional song "Detroit Is A Good Sports Town" plays, the narrator notes that the 1982 Super Bowl is to be held at the Pontiac Silverdome. The film then transitions to the topic of Belle Isle. This section includes a fly-over from the western tip of the island, a band performing at the Jerome H. Remick Music Shell, and quick shots of the interior of the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, and a family playing ball. The action then moves to Eastern Market. A vendor briefly speaks to the camera over various shots of the market. Dining then becomes the film's focus. In a montage peppered with shots of a belly dancing act (presumably at the Bouzouki Lounge, the exterior of which appears in the film's intro), Schweizer's, the London Chop House, the Roma Cafe, Kyoto, Doug's Body Shop, and Joe Muer Sea Food are also shown. The final portion of the film highlights attractions in the broader area around Detroit. The interior of Fairlane Town Center is shown in a short pan. Ann Arbor's Michigan Theater also makes a brief appearance. When discussing the proximity of Windsor, the Olde Steak House, The Old Fish Market, and Place Riviere are shown. Boblo Island's STE. CLAIRE, Thunderbolt rollercoaster, an dolphin show are also shown. Shots of canoeing, boating, and skiing are used to represent activities available in Michigan. The film's closing montage begins with a shot of ice skaters in the bowl area of Hart Plaza. - Detroit Fire Department active duty certificate, engraved by Capewell and Kimmel, and issued to J. Wolf on September 27, 1858. The document bears the signatures of President Robert E. Roberts, Treasurer Alexander Paton, and Secretary Benjamin Vernor, beside a green embossed Fire Department of the City of Detroit seal. Hand-colored illustrations of uniformed firefighters, an early fire apparatus and firefighting equipment, the seal of the State of Michigan, and Neptune flanked by two winged monsters are bordered by scrollwork. Stars have been added around the top edge of the central circle motif. The certificate has been mounted on linen.

- One booklet with a black leather cover that is stamped in gold-colored text which shows "Municipal Manual of the City of Detroit, 1900-1901." The booklet is 112 pages in length and is printed in black text on faintly yellowed paper. It includes general facts about the city, names of city officials, names of various committees and commissions and their members, annual salaries, terms of office, rules of order for the Common Council, ward boundary descriptions, street railway routes, values of city real estate, and a summary of assessed valuations for city taxes. There is also a table of contents in the back of the manual as well as a fold-out street map of the city. On a blank page at the back of the manual, a handwritten note shows " Clarence Arthur Cotton, Secretary to Mayor, Detroit, Mich., December 31, 1900. Compliments to Mayor's Secretary of 2001."

Thompson of Sunderland, England to David Birrell concerning the Queen's address at the opening of parliament, and her remarks regarding American Civil War and U.S.-British relations, as well as a question concerning the pricing of pharmaceuticals, dated February 6, 1861: 261 High St. Sunderland My dear Birrell, I received your letter of the 27th of Dec. some days ago, which was forwarded to me from Thirsk, where I no longer reside, having left home, and entered upon business on my own, etc. I also received yours of Oct. 15/ 59 [Oct. 15th, 1859?]. The port of Sunderland is one of the most important on the North Eastern coast of England. It is between 50 and 60 miles north of Thirsk. Yesterday Her Majesty the Queen opened Parliament in person and, as is usual on such occasions, she delivered a speech from the Throne to the members of both houses. In it she alluded to the rupture which has arisen among the states of the North American Union and in reference to which she said "It is impossible for me not to look with great concern upon any events which can effect the happiness and welfare of a people nearly allied to my subjects by descent- and closely connected with them by most intimate and friendly relations." "My heartfelt wish is that these differences may be susceptible of a satisfactory adjustment." Her Majesty also alluded to the "Kind and cordial" reception given to the Prince of Wales during his visit to America, and expresses her "warn appreciation of the loyalty and attachment to her person and Throne manifested by her Canadian and other North American subjects on the occasion of the residence of the Prince of Wales among them." The different states of Europe appear to be in a very unsettled state- as regards their political relationship with other. I believe war is looked upon as possible at any moment. Denmark and Germany don't appear to be on very friendly terms. Italian affairs are not settled, & Hungary looks for concessions from Austria. In your recent letter I should be glad if you would tell me on what principle you make your charges for drugs and medicines in America.
