- Dr. Jeffrey Rothstein delivers a talk entitled, "When good jobs go bad: globalization, de-Unionization and declining labor standards in the North American auto industry". Rothstein compares three General Motors auto plants around the world while talking about the changing nature of jobs and the impact on work in the auto industry in the face of a globalization of the manufacturing economy. He describes good auto industry jobs which provide access to the middle class, but says that these jobs are getting steadily worse. He calls for an international labor standards structure to protect workers. A question and answer session concludes the session. Rothstein is introduced by Michigan State University Professor John P. Beck.
