- M. Cecil Mackey, former president of Michigan State University and current professor of economics, discusses his education, career, and tenure as MSU President. Mackey talks about his efforts to maintain the authority of the MSU Board of Trustees and planning the Breslin Center while president and his time as an economics professor since he left the presidency. Mackey also reminisces about his early career as counsel for the Senate Antitrust Subcommittee and the Department of Transportation, as well as his early posts as President of the University of South Florida and Texas Tech. Mackey says that military conscription in both World War II and the Korean War had a definite impact on his education and discusses his opinions on the current state of higher education. Mackey is interviewed by retired MSU Professor Pauline Adams for the Michigan State University Faculty Emeriti Oral History Project.

- Tom Marvin, professor of English and American Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) delivers a talk entitled, "Occupy the University: Putting Student and Labor Activism in Perspective". Marvin suggests that public education is under attack by Neo-liberalism with its demand that all human activities justify themselves based on a narrow conception of profit and loss. He explains how and why it is important for students and labor unions to work together to affect the affordability of higher education as well as the working conditions of faculty and staff. Marvin uses the tactics and goals of the recent "Occupy Wall Street" movement and juxtaposes them against corporate interests and influence in public education institutions. A question and answer session follows. Marvin is introduced by Michigan State University Professor John P. Beck. Part of the "Our Daily Work/Our Daily Lives" Brown Bag series sponsored by the MSU School of Human Resources and Labor Relations and the MSU Museum. Held at the MSU Museum.

- W. Patrick Dixon, Michigan State University Professor of Educational Psychology, delivers a talk at the MSU Main Library titled "Technology and higher education: the future is now". Dixon says the shift to online learning is irreversible and accelerating and that appliances and storage media will continue to get smaller. Dixon also reports on the growth of competition in the education business and says that traditional educational environments can not keep up with the rate of change or accommodate the diversity of learners. He strongly endorses the concept of student portfolios to showcase college work and says that portfolios need to be online for prospective employers to see. Question and answer session follows. - Michigan State University Economics Professor and former Dean of the Honors College, Dr. Ronald Fisher, talks about his childhood and youth in upstate New York and growing up in a Sears and Roebuck kit house built by his grandfather. He explains how he came to MSU for his undergraduate work in chemistry and then went to graduate school, majoring in economics, at Brown University. Fisher compares living on the east coast to mid-west living, describes the differences in the teaching environment now and 40 years ago, how students have changed, how the character of universities has changed, how universities are funded, and why tuition is rising. Fisher also talks about his eleven years with the MSU Honors College and says that he believes it attracts high caliber students to the Unviversity. Fisher is interviewed by retired MSU Professor Pauline Adams for the Michigan State University Faculty Emeriti Association Oral History Project.

- Michigan State University African Studies Director David Wiley interviews George and Nancy Axinn on their seven years experience at University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), established with MSU faculty and US AID funding from the late 1950s. The Axinns talk about the involvement of Nigeria's first President Nnamdi Azikiwe and University Vice Chancellor Kalu Ezera, experiences of the numerous MSU faculty and staff at Nsukka, adoption of a unique higher education model different from the British/colonial model and attuned, like the MSU land grant model, to local needs through applied and social sciences and humanities including agriculture, engineering and nutrition/home economics, similarities between the Continuing Education Centre (UNN) and Kellogg Center (MSU), exchanges between MSU and UNN, and disruption and violence of the Biafran War of 1967-70 and evacuation of MSU faculty, personnel, and families.
