- Description:
- View looking north along Water Street. The Western Knitting Mills factory is on the left. The building immediately behind the factory was the original dormitory, with the two adjoining buildings added sometime later along Water Street. All three dormitories have since been demolished. The Western Knitting Mills factory was built in 1896 and produced knitted goods until 1939. The building was later owned by the McAleer Manufacturing Company, later known as the Higbie Manufacturing Company, and then ITT Higbie. In 1994 the Rochester Mills Beer Company restored the building and it now operates as a restaurant and brewery.(RRP-293) see also BL-57 Ray Russell Postcard Collection

- First Baptist Church, built in 1854, located at northwest corner of Walnut Boulevard and Fourth Street. In 1973, the congregation built a new church and this building was sold. The Samuel Harris Fountain can be seen in the center of the photograph. The fountain is now located east of the police station, north of University (Fifth Street).
