Simon", "Temple Barber Shop" and "Thiry'". A car is parked on the street. Printed on the verso, "The Elks' Temple. Monroe Avenue is one of the many handsome buildings to be found in the busy thoroughfare. It is nine stories in height, the seven lower floors being used for business and office purposes, while the remaining two floors are given over entirely to lodge rooms, which are commodious and very artistically decorated." Handwritten note on verso reads "Dear Glen, arrived in Detroit last eve. We are on the Boat for Belle Isle and it's lovely. Detroit is one jam. - Color postcard depicting a many people on bridge over a canal on Belle Isle. Printed on verso: Resting in Belle Isle Park. - Canoeing is the leading sport at Belle Isle, Detroit's largest playground. Its 702 acres are threaded by many miles of canals and lakes, affording an ideal spot in which the light little craft cruise about by thousands. Band concerts are given at the city's expense during the Summer afternoons and evenings and on such occasions the canoeists are present in great numbers. - Color postcard depicting an elevated view of Belle Isle. To the left is the Cedar Mound, and to the right is bridge over a body of water with people canoeing. Printed on verso: Lagoon and Mound, Belle Isle. Belle Isle is in the Detroit River, between Detroit and Windsor, Canada. The Island contains 702 acres and is entirely covered with one of the most beautiful parks in the United States, having some 21 miles of Macadam Roads, a magnificent Casino, Pavilions, Boat Houses, Aquarium, Horticultural Hall and Zoological Gardens. The Island was purchased by Detroit in 1879 and has since then $1,600,000 has been expended in beautifying it. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Aug 8, 1915.
