She jokes about the President then describes the positive aspects of the bill and the commitments she and Jill Biden have secured from thousands of businesses to hire veterans. President Obama also talks about the tax credits companies will receive when they hire veterans, the numbers of vets looking for work, and the additional initiatives he has taken by executive order to help unemployed veterans connect with employers. - Author, poet, artist and journeyman electrician Susan Eisenberg delivers a talk titled, "On equal terms: women's struggles in the construction workplace". Eisenberg talks about the history of women in construction and building trades, apprentice programs, and government influence. She talks about the nature of the work, the danger, job insecurity, wages and benefits. Eisenberg says that women have had a difficult time being successful in the face of continued discrimination. A question and answer follows the talk and then Eisenberg leads a tour of her display in the Michigan State University Museum. Eisenberg is introduced by Professor John P. - Tom Marvin, professor of English and American Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) delivers a talk entitled, "Occupy the University: Putting Student and Labor Activism in Perspective". Marvin suggests that public education is under attack by Neo-liberalism with its demand that all human activities justify themselves based on a narrow conception of profit and loss. He explains how and why it is important for students and labor unions to work together to affect the affordability of higher education as well as the working conditions of faculty and staff. Marvin uses the tactics and goals of the recent "Occupy Wall Street" movement and juxtaposes them against corporate interests and influence in public education institutions. A question and answer session follows. Marvin is introduced by Michigan State University Professor John P. Beck.
