Obama says that even though he was not a strong science student he fully supports the work of the academy. He describes the improvements and progress that have resulted from applied science, praises our centers of higher learning, and pledges his support to further the country's scientific excellence. - President Obama speaks at an event marking the 60th anniversary of the signing of the armistice ending the Korean War July 27, 1953. Obama recounts the singing of the armistice, the end of hostilities and what returning home was like for the veterans. He declares "victory" in what has been called the "forgotten war." Obama thanks those who served saying, "in the spring of your youth you learned how short and precious life can be. And because of you, millions of people can keep on living it, in freedom and in peace." Held at the Korean War Memorial on the Mall in Washington D.C.
