- Sepia-toned head-and-shoulders cabinet card portrait photograph of an unidentified fireman. Badge on hat reads "184", handwritten on back "#19." It's mounted onto a green card backing that bears the name and address of the photographers, Holcombe and Metzen of 222 and 220 Woodward Avenue. The reverse also includes a print of an engraving serving as a more elaborate logo for the photographers, consisting of framed photo of a woman in profile, placed before a partially drawn curtain, which eclipses a half sunburst above.

- Large sepia-toned photograph of Detroit Fire Department Chief James C. Broderick and driver George Appel, seated in an Oldsmobile Autocrat, which is parked on a brick street, beside a brick wall. "DFD" is painted on the car's door. The photo is mounted on cardstock. A typewritten caption affixed to the verso reads: Chief James Broderick, pictured here in the driver's seat of an early motorized chief's car, served in Detroit's Fire Department for fifty continuous years. He was one of the few men who witnessed the passing from the hand engines to steam engines and from the steam engines to gasoline motor-driven apparatus. He saw the department grow from a small group of volunteers to a department of over 1,700 men. His first big fire after taking charge of the Fire Department was the spectacular Michigan Stove Works fire, which occurred on January 8, 1907, one week after he became Chief. The biggest fire in Chief Broderick's time was the D.M. Ferry Seed Company fire on New Year's Day, 1886, with a loss of a million dollars, a huge sum in those days.

He wears a kepi hat with five crossed bugles on its badge, with a double-breasted coat. The photo was previously housed in the center of a three-part cardstock frame between photos of two other ranking firefighters.

- Photograph. A mounted, sepia-toned print of a "flashlight photo" of a firehouse interior where a fire engine is hitched up to a pair of horses and surrounded by ten firefighters--four riding on the engine, three handling the horses with another approaching, one opening the door, and the last sliding down the fire pole. A number 3 is visible on the stack of the fire engine, suggesting this is Engine Company No. 3. "John Forster & Son, Photographers, Manufrs. of Picture Frames. 178 & 180 Gratiot Ave., Detroit, Mich." printed on verso.

- Cabinet card bearing a sepia-toned head-and-shoulders portrait photograph of Detroit Fire Commissioner Jerome Croul. This photograph is one of a series of eight photos of former Detroit Fire Department Commissioners. The decorative engraved logo of the photographer (Randall) has been torn off of the verso of the cabinet card photo. The proof bears the name of "Geo. Francis Train" at the bottom, and a stamp for Randall, 220 & 222 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Mich." is shown on the verso.

- Sepia-toned gelatin silver photo of five firemen, a horse-drawn hose wagon, and a horse-drawn steam fire engine as they are leaving the fire station. The group is Steam Engine Company No. 9 and the number, "9," can be seen on the side of the hose wagon just below the driver's seat. The brick fire station and open doors are visible in the background. A carved stone above the doors shows "A.D. 1901." Several other brick buildings can be seen in the background on the left side of the photo.

- Sepia-toned photograph of a team of three Detroit Fire Department horses fully bridled and pulling an engine, as part of the ceremonial final run of a horse-drawn Detroit Fire Department apparatus on April 10, 1922 on Woodward Avenue. Two men are seen faintly in the distance driving the team. On verso it is noted, "For Hon. H.C. Murphy, from the late Augusta D. von Schrader, Last Run of the Fire Horses."

- Sepia-toned head-and-shoulders portrait photograph of a Detroit fireman. The badge on the cap reads, "DFD 203" and the badge on the jacket reads, "Detroit 203." The bottom of the image notes the photography studio of, "Friend & Smith, 244 - 246 Woodward Ave, Detroit." Noted on verso, "Wm. Sullivan," this is possibly an image of William Sullivan. Sullivan was a Lieutenant for Hook and Ladder Co. No. 2.

A horse drawn hose apparatus carrying five firefighters is stopped in the street in front of a firehouse decorated with stone reliefs of crossed ladders and bugles. The number 1 is visible on the lanterns of the apparatus. A crowd of men in hats and coats stands along the wooden sidewalk. "KZ66" printed in white in lower right corner of grey inner border. Battle is posing in a "chief" sash, and next to a "chief engineer" helmet, and horn. Battle was noted for being first paid chief of the department after its formation in 1865.
