- Two sepia-toned albumen cabinet cards bearing portrait photographs of a fireman who is standing beside a small table. His hand is resting a small statue that is on the table. The fireman is wearing his uniform which includes a long, double-breasted coat, decorative belt, and cap. His belt has the letter, "T," on the buckle. On one copy his collar has been hand-colored in purple, and badge shows the handwritten number, "4," while the other copy has the handwritten number "2" on the coat matching the "2" on his hat's badge. Handwriting on the verso notes "Frank Walsh."

- Cabinet card bearing a sepia-toned head-and-shoulders portrait photograph of Detroit Fire Commissioner Joseph Godfrey. This photograph is one of a series of eight photos of former Detroit Fire Department Commissioners. The decorative engraved logo of the photographer (Randall) has been torn off of the verso of the cabinet card photo. The proof bears the name of "Geo. Francis Train" at the bottom, and a stamp for Randall, 220 & 222 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Mich." is shown on the verso. (Also see photograph 1952.413.004.)

- Description:
- Hardcover letter book containing duplicates produced with a letter copying press of letters mailed by Detroit Fire Marshals George Dunlop and William H. Baxter, as well as an Assistant Fire Marshall James E. Tryon, spanning October 10, 1877 to September 11, 1886. The letters are mostly in chronological order, with a tabbed alphabetical table of contents section at the front listing the recipients. The book is bound in a brown cloth-covered cover. "Letters," and "Fire Marshall" are printed on the spine.

- Description:
- Sepia-toned gelatin silver photo showing the interior of the fire station of Engine Company No. 21 with nine firemen who are preparing to answer a call. Two firemen can be seen sliding down a pole on the left side of the photo while the other firemen are hitching the horses to the steam fire engine. A system of lines and pulleys can be seen on the ceiling of the station which is being used to lower the harnesses onto the horses. A firemen's belt with the number, "21," can be seen hanging from the driver's seat just above the left front wheel. The photo was taken at night so there is a fair amount of light reflection which tends to wash out the image. The mounting cardboard is printed in black ink at the top, "Taken At Night." The photographer's name is printed in black ink in the lower left corner: "J. Forster & Son, 178-180 Gratiot Ave., Detroit." The lower right corner is printed in black ink, "Headquarters for Flashlights."

- Photograph. Sepia-toned photo showing the wreckage of the Detroit Journal Building after an explosion. The photo shows a mass of fallen structural timbers and a large number of workers who are carrying away debris. Spectators are visible on the rooftop in the background. The explosion occurred at 9:05 on the morning of Nov. 6, 1895. The building was located at 49 W. Larned St. and was totally destroyed.

- Small hard-cover book, bound in a black cover with gold lettering, containing the Articles of Association, Articles of Re-Incorporation, the By-Laws of the Detroit Firemen's Fund Association, printed by Cornehl and Sons. "Property of Chief Martin Cooney, Supt. of Horses," is handwritten on a front flyleaf.

- Memorial card for Martin Cooney, the former Superintendent of Horses for the Detroit Fire Department. The card consists of a half folded cardstock cover, printed with a small black image of a wreath. A half-folded leaf of paper is bound in the cover with string. "In Loving Memory of Martin Cooney, Died May 1922. Only Sleeping. In the light of God we see you, / Each night we lay down; / We hear Your voice as when on Earth / And see each smile and frown. / And when we are called to join you, / This world and we are thru, / We pray to the Lord to let us go, / As peaceful and brave as you." is printed on the inside in gold on black. "Martin Cooney died May 21, 1922," is handwritten inside the cover.

All of the background has been removed from the image. The number, "KX11," is written in the lower right corner of the image. A blue ink stamp with handwriting on the verso shows "Detroit Historical Museum, Subject: Ladder #6, First horse-drawn then motorized tractor added."
