- Description:
- This is an artificial collection of Stockbridge local history materials assembled by library staff. There are several themes and types of materials within the collection. It is likely that more will be added. Themes represented in the collection include family histories, business history, church and cemetery information, general local history topics, the proposed Superconducting Supercollider (1980s), the Waterloo area, and some other regional history. Types of material include photocopied newspaper articles and documents, and some original clippings. There is a large group of area telephone directories from different publishers. Published family, church, and business histories, and newsletters of several area organizations are also in the collection. Some of the newspaper clippings come from scrapbooks that were kept by local individuals such as Mary Lessie Ramsdell Farrington (the Ramsdell Clippings and Scrapbook) or Casper W. Glenn (the Alaniz Clippings) on the theme of vital records or Stockbridge events and activities. These often have some type of index. Other clippings, such as those from the Town Crier, are organized chronologically and have no other index (Note that clippings from 2003 were not found.). There are a few maps and some local/state government reports and studies in the collection as well.
