- Description:
- This is a small collection of mostly photographs and some correspondence belonging to Helena (Lena) Noch. She and her parents John and Augusta, and younger brother Paul, immigrated from Germany in 1889 when she was about six or seven years old. Her father worked at the R. G. Grammel company as a harness maker, and also at some of the automotive-related industries in the Lansing area. Paul also worked for Grammel, and was employed by the Olds Motor Works. They lived in North Lansing at 1316 Center Street. Information about their deaths, whether Helena or her brother were married, or other personal information is not known other than that her father, John Noch, is buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Sometimes their name is spelled Nock. The photographs are not identified but the same people appear in several of them. Some were taken in various German cities. These date from about 1880 to 1930. Correspondence in this collection consists mainly of postcards sent to Helena with brief reminders about social events and personal news from a woman named Mary G. (dated 1938-1949). There is also a letter to Paul Noch concerning a treatment he underwent at the Bernarr Macfadden Healthatorium in Chicago, Illinois, dated 1911.
