- Sepia-toned portrait photo of Jacob Guthard of Company H of the 9th Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, housed inside a beige cardstock folder. Guthard is pictured in a reversed oval-shaped half length portrait wearing a Union army jacket, an eagle shoulder breast sling plate, and kepi hat with an "H" insignia pin holding his rifle. The folder's cover bears an embossed image of a coat of arms, and the handwritten note, "Company H 9th Michigan; Volunteer Infantry; Aug 1861; Jacob Guthard." "Picture of Jacob Guthard who enlisted in the Co. 14. 9th Michigan; Volunteer Infantry Aug. 1861 - at the age of sixteen years. Property of Mrs. W. J. - Mounted invitation to James W. Witherell to a Ball by the Officers at the Post of Detroit on the evening of the 11th inst. A printed list of names follow, "R. A. Zantzinger, C. Mellon, H. Stanton, J. Farley." The invitation is dated March 4th, 1823. On the right side there are two wax seals and and a handwritten note which reads, "Invitation to attend a Ball at the Center next Tuesday 11th March 1823, shall not attend, to be ofenced[?] 1824, March 4th."

- Sepia-toned panoramic group portrait of members of the U.S. Army's 310th Engineers battalion--the "Polar Bears"--taken at Camp Pontanezen in Brest, France in July of 1919 during World War I. - Benjamin F. Witherell's handwritten oath of office as Lieutenant of the 1st Regiment of the Michigan Militia. It reads: Michigan Territory County of Wayne I, Benjamin F. Witherell do solemnly swear that I will support the constitution of the United States of America so help me God. I, Benjamin F. Witherell do swear that I will preform the duties attached to my office as Lieut in the first Regt. of Michigan Militia to the best of my abilities so help me God. Benjamin F. Witherell Sworn and [?] before me this twentieth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and nineteen. Rich. J. Smyth, Justice of the Peace -D.D. The document is an oath of office for Benjamin F. Witherell for Michigan Territory in the County of Wayne filed July 22, 1819. The oath is written in two paragraphs and signed by Benjamin F. Witherell in both sections. The oath was taken on the 20th of July and signed off by the Justice of the Peace Rich [?] Smyth [?]. " Lieut. Benjamin F. Witherell's Oath of Office filed in my Office July 22 1819." is handwritten on the verso.
