Photograph Series: Lansing Public Library

Description:

Photographs of the Lansing Public Library. The original 1905 Carnegie Library was on Shiawassee Street west of Capitol Avenue. A new building opened in 1964 at the southeast corner of Kalamazoo and Capitol avenues. It was named the Clarence H. Rosa Library in honor of the Lansing Board of Education president. The Lansing library was part of the Lansing School District since its earliest years. When the Capital Area District Libraries system was formed, it became known as the Downtown Lansing branch and the base of administrative operations for the independent library system. Library photographs also appear in the Municipal Buildings series (2017-03-001.015).
