Notes:
Eight sheets joined by parchment tie in upper left corner., On items 3, 4, and 5, dorse: three to four line near contemporary inscriptions. All items include the name of Richard Humfrey and Richard Cannon., Eight parchment court rolls relating to West Hanningfield, Essex, all of which are contemporary with one another and are joined together by a single parchment tie. Extensive damage to the membranes of several rolls with significant loss of text. Contents include: Richard Cannon surrenders tenement called Tanners in West Hanningfield to use of Richard Gynne and Humphrey Brooke sues (item 1); death and will records for Richard Cannon (item 2); death and will of Rchard Humfrey (item 4); licenses to fell trees (item 6); license to lease holding (item 7); and surrender and readmission of Richard Humfrey (item 8)., Written in English secretary script, likely all by the same hand. Item 1 is written in slightly larger and darker hand with opening words in bastard anglicana., and Written in England, probably in West Hanningfield between 1603 and 1611 (each document has a different date). On the first item, dorse: the number”59” in pencil. On item 2, dorse: “843” in pencil. Gift of Western Michigan University Department of History to Special Collections in 1999.
