- Dr. Mohammad Khalil, associate professor of Religious Studies at Michigan State University, leads a discussion on the book, "The art of Hajj" by Venetia Porter, which looks at the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the spiritual center of the Islamic world, and the innumerable ways used to articulate the experience, from calligraphy to decorative tiles to scientific instruments. Dr. Khalil presents a brief lecture framing the discussion before the audience breaks into small groups. The small group discussions are not heard. Dr. Khalil reconvenes the large group to discuss the book. Part four of a five part series entitled "Muslim Journeys: Pathways of Faith," exploring and the Muslin faith in the United States and throughout the world. MSU Librarian Deborah Margolis convenes the event and explains how the discussion will be facilitated.
