Chateau Lake Louise

Description:

A large Swiss-style hotel with pine trees. This hotel was built in about 1890, and the structure changed several times due to fires, reconstruction, and additions. The portion seen in this photograph was destroyed by fire in 1924. At the time of the Mead family visit in 1909, it was at the peak of its popularity as a summer destination for railway tourists in the Canadian Rockies. Based on other photographs in this series, the Meads likely stayed at the sister Banff Springs Hotel and visited the chalet on a day trip. It has been known as Chateau Lake Louise, Chalet Lake Louise, or Lake Louise Chalet. Located in Alberta, Canada. Seven copies.
