Governor's Mansion

Description:
So called "Governor's Mansion" built by the State around 1857. No governor ever lived in the residence. It was originally located on the southeast corner of Capitol Avenue and Allegan Street, as shown in this photograph. The home was purchased by architect Edwin Bowd in 1923 and moved to 2003 West Main Street, after which time extensive remodeling was done. A lengthy history of the home appears in the Lansing "State Journal," November 24, 1933, page 20. Three copies.
