Pear Trees

Etching of pear trees, from a photograph taken in 1883. The etching depicts several pear trees with a person walking among them. A fence is visible behind the trees, and several buildings are visible beyond that. The caption underneath the image features the title, "Pear Trees," followed by the description "Transplanted from France on the D'etroit by the first farm settlers in Michigan in 1749. Photographed in 1883." Following the caption is a verse from the poem "To the Old Pear Trees of Detroit," written by W.H. Coyle in 1849, reading as follows: "Live on, old trees, in your hale green age, Long, long may your shadows last, With your blossomed boughs and golden fruit, Loved emblems of the past."
