- Description:
- Map, "Plan of Detroit," from page 80 of Mitchell's New General Atlas, "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1879 by S. Augustus Mitchell in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington." The map shows the City of Detroit, separated into 10 wards with green, pink, and yellow shading. The map is bound to the west by Twenty Fourth Street, to the south by the Detroit River, to the east by Mt. Elliott Avenue, and to the north by Holden Road (near what is now I-94). In addition to roads, the map also indicates railroad lines, including Michigan Central R.R., Grand Trunk R.R., Detroit Monroe & Toledo R.R., and Detroit & Milwaukee R.R. The reverse side of the page features page 79 of Mitchell's New General Atlas, which contains a portion of a map of Michigan.
