Baldwin, and Austin Blair on the steps of the new Michigan State Capitol in Lansing on the day of its dedication, January 1, 1879. "The Governors and Ex-Governors of Michigan, Jan. 1st 1879, Mead & Jennings, Artists," has been printed along the bottom of the image, as though it were written on the ground. The names and dates of service have been handwritten on the matting adjacent to each governor.
