- President Barack Obama announces the nomination of Chief Judge Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court to fill the seat left open by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. Obama says Garland is experienced and respected by his peers and recounts Garland's education and qualifications. Obama criticizes the Senate Republican leadership who have stated they will hold no confirmation hearings on any nominee until after the Presidential election in November. Garland says the nomination is the greatest honor of his life and looks forward to the confirmation process. Held in the White House Rose Garden.

- Photographer Luis Delgado-Qualtrough presents, "Bauhaus in a barrel," in conjunction with the Michigan State University Museum's exhibition, "Seeing China: photographic views and viewpoints," as part of MSU's Year of China in 2015. Delgado explains his outlook and style of photography, while showing some of his works. He answers questions from the audience about his photographs and his methods. - Keith Taylor, coordinator of the undergraduate creative writing program at the University of Michigan, reads poetry from a new manuscript just sent to his publisher and scheduled to be published in 2009. Taylor says that he writes about his experiences with Michigan's places and people and attempts to capture the daily patterns, habits, aspirations and dreams of those around him. He also reads from the following: "Battered guitars: the poetry and prose of Kostas Karyotakis", "And the waters prevailed", "What's needed now", and "The walk." He concludes by reading three short love poems and then answers questions from the audience. Taylor is introduced by MSU Librarian Peter Berg.
