- In his monthly radio program Memories of the Past, Doug Tjapkes interviews Grand Haven resident John VanSchelven about his early memories of the area. During this program, John talks about sledding on city streets, "icing" the hill on Second Street for sledding, and riding in horse-drawn cutters during the winter. He also remembers early grocery stores, ice-boxes, and home grocery delivery. He also reminisces about working a local bakery as a young man.

Stokes focuses on a preliminary definition of black politics, the results of 125 years of black liberalism, and looks to the future of African American politics. - Dr. Carol Quirke, Professor of History at SUNY-Old Westbury, delivers a talk entitled, "Bitter Kisses for Labor: Mass Consumer Capitalism and the Hershey Chocolate Sit-down Strike, 1937." Quirke talks about her book "Eyes on Labor" then discusses in depth the chapter on the 1937 Hershey's sit-down strike. She explains the evolution of visual images in national newspapers and then tracks the use of photography to present unions and strikes as violent and un-American. Quirke describes how Hershey management fought off the attempt at unionization. She answers questions from the audience. Quirke is introduced by Michigan State University Professor John P. Beck.
