- Sepia-toned photo mounted on a black cabinet card with gold trim bearing an image taken during the 1891 National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic in Detroit. The view is across Campus Martius, filled with people and decorated with flags, facing northeast down Monroe Street. In the background, the Detroit Opera House, indicated with a blue "X," is visible. On the other side, stands the Monroe Block. In the foreground, marked with an "O," are the steps to City Hall. Nearby on the right is fountain topped with a statue of a woman. "Detroit Opera House (left X) & square front of City Hall, Detroit. (Taken so ? stand front of City Hall shows O). I went to Detroit Opera House all thru my youth. Guthard is pictured in a reversed oval-shaped half length portrait wearing a Union army jacket, an eagle shoulder breast sling plate, and kepi hat with an "H" insignia pin holding his rifle. The folder's cover bears an embossed image of a coat of arms, and the handwritten note, "Company H 9th Michigan; Volunteer Infantry; Aug 1861; Jacob Guthard." - Resolution, on cardboard, from the Boston Shoe Associates to the Detroit Post No. 384 of the Grand Army of the Republic. The text of the resolution is as follows: "At the Annual Meeting of the Boston Shoe Associates held on February twenty-third, nineteen hundred and five, the following resolutions were unanimously passed:- Resolved: That the Boston Shoe Associates hereby tender their sincere thanks to Detroit Post No. 384, Department of Michigan, G.A.R. for the handsome testimonial sent by them and assure them that they will prize it highly and preserve it most carefully as a token of the friendship of the Post. Resolved: That this resolution be placed on the records of this Association and that the Secretary be instructed to send a copy of said resolution to the Post. Elisha James Jr. President J. Albert Blake Vice-President C. Frank Hunting Treasurer Attest: Robert Mills Secretary."
