- Dr. Dale Faunce and Dr. Russell Seibert, WMU faculty, placing a doctoral hood on Dr. E. Gifford Upjohn as he receives honorary Doctor of Laws degree at WMU June Commencement 1964. A cropped version of the photograph appeared in the Western Michigan University Magazine, Vol. 22 No. 3. Dr. E. Gifford Upjohn served as a director of the National Citizens Committee of the World Health Organization and as national chairman of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers' Association. He served on the Governor's Citizen's Committee on Higher Education, was a member of the Kalamazoo County Board of Supervisors, the City Commission, was president of the Kalamazoo Community Chest and was president of the Kalamazoo Academy of Medicine. He was chairman of the board of the Upjohn Company of Kalamazoo.

- Dr. Phillip R. Shriver speaking from a podium at the 1967 Mid-December Commencement held in the Read Field House at Western Michigan University. Behind him sits faculty in academic regalia. Shriver was president of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Dr. Shriver earned his bachelor's degree at Yale University, his master's from Harvard University and Ph.D. from Columbia University. Prior to assuming his post at Miami, he was dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Kent State University.

- Charles J. Scanlon, president of the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago, giving the commencement address at the WMU graduation ceremony in June 1964. Scanlon also received an honorary degree of Doctor of Business Administration. In the background are the Oakland Gym and West Hall (later the Natural Science Building). Scanlon was fifth president of the Federal Reserve, serving from 1962 to 1970. In addition to his work at the Chicago Fed, Scanlon was an instructor of loans and credits at the Inter-Agency Bank Examination School in Washington, DC, and served as a consultant to the government of Liberia.

Commencement speaker Dr. Earl J. McGrath, US commissioner of Education, was awarded a degree of Doctor of Laws. Miss Cleo Hartwig, nationally known sculptress and a graduate of Western Michigan College, received a degree of Master of Fine Arts. L. C. Mohr, superintendent of schools at South Haven, received a degree of Doctor of Education. Theodore L. Brownyard, chemist in the Bureau of Ordnance, Navy Department receive a Doctor of Science. The photograph appeared in the Summer 1951 Western Michigan College News Magazine Vol. 9 No. 4.
