Handwritten text on the left and upper edges of the photo shows "During Switchmens Strike" and "Volunteer switchmen, May 1920; Porteous, Div. Freight Ag't.; Ulrich, Ass't. Passenger Agt." Both men are wearing workmen's overalls and hats. Based upon the position on the text, the man on the left is Mr. Porteous and the man on the right is Mr. Ulrich. Handrails and other track lines are visible in the background. The photo was probably taken at a Michigan Central railroad yard near Detroit.
