- British internees march to one of the camp kitchens at Ruhleben with their dinner buckets in hand. While theoretically under the command of a German non-commissioned officer, several of the internees appear to be out of step in the march. The British civilians chafed under German insistence on running the camp like a military facility.

- One of the barracks at Dunaszerdahley is ablaze at night. This was one of the worst nightmares for POW's because fires were particularly dangerous in packed barracks. Camp administrators strictly prohibited smoking and other fire hazards in camp buildings in an attempt to prevent conflagrations and trained fire crews to rescue prisoners and combat the flames.

- Dejected and dirty Italian prisoners sit in the castle prison courtyard at Laibach. An Austrian non-commissioned officer stands to the right near the doorway of the castle. The photograph caption describes the Italians as "basking in the sun," but it is clear that they have a lot of time on their hands and little to do in Austrian captivity.

- A group of British interned civilians at Raabs enjoy a sunny day with their families outdoors. These prisoners held British passports when the war broke out and the Austrian government eventually interned them as enemy aliens.

- This poster depicts a horde of German soldiers groping women amid crying children and tired old men and women. Some of the Germans are drunk and are on a rampage. In the background is the remains of a destroyed village and the corpse of a man hanging from a tree. Rape was a problem for both Allied and Central Powers during World War I, but the Allies emphasized the cruelty of the "Huns" throughout the war in a major propaganda campaign.

- German soldiers and prisoners stand on a street in the prison compound in Stralkowo. Wooden barracks line the street and tall utility poles stand in the middle of the thoroughfare. These barracks served as the quarters for the 2nd Reserves of the Landsturm, German troops that were assigned to provide security for the camp. Note the flower gardens which are carefully tended in front of each barrack. These gardens provided prisoners with some pastime to decorate the outside of their accommodations.
