Witherell, president of the State Historical Society, is contained within: The Historical Society are respectfully invited to join the procession at 1 1/2 o'clock PM at the Russell House. W.B. Howe, Chairman of [?] "Washington's Birthday 1859," is handwritten on the verso so that it would appear on top when the invitation was folded into sixths.

The invitation consists of a half-folded sheet of velum bounded around a half-folded sheet of paper with white string. An engraving of an eagle perched atop the Federal Shield, with arrows and laurels in its talons is on the cover. A passage describing the occasion using eagle-related terminology is contained within.
