- Description:
- The grist mill was built in 1937 by Johnson Niles and passed through many hands before being sold to Steven W. Barkham and Beal Barkham in 1903. It was completely destroyed by fire in 1927. It was located south of downtown Rochester on the west side of Main Street, near First Street and the Clinton River. Commonly known as Barkham Mill. - Description:
- Side view of Hotel St. James with horse, buggy, and passengers. Originally the Lambertson House when it was built in 1847 by John V. Lambertson, this wooden structure became the Hotel St. James when it was purchased by James Wilson Smith in 1892. Located at the southwest corner of Main Street and Fifth Street (University Drive), the hotel operated until the 1930s and was eventually torn down in 1962 after falling into disrepair. - Description:
- Ariel view of the Parke-Davis Biological Farm. The Parke, Davis and Company was incorporated in the 1870s in Detroit, Michigan. The pharmaceutical company opened a facility in Avon Township in 1908, which has the distinction of being the first of its kind to hold a license for the manufacture of vaccines and other biological-based drugs in the United States. Commonly referred to as the Parkedale Farm or Parke-Davis Farm, it was comprised of land along Parkdale Road, bordered by Miller Avenue on the west, Van Hoosen Farm on the north, Dequindre Road on the east, the Michigan Central Railroad (MCR) on the south. Most of the farm buildings were demolished in 1999, but a few original structures remain. The site was owned by various companies over the years and was acquired by JHP Pharmaceuticals in 2007, which controls a parcel of land east of Letica Drive. - The W.F. Korff Meat Market, or Central Meat Market, was located within the James W. Smith Block on the east side of Main Street. Pictured are Mr. Penniman with a basket and Hardy Korff (1894-1959) in an apron. Mr. Penniman came with his basket to take something home to his wife or dog.
