- Sister Betty Gaiss discusses her experiences teaching medical ethics in the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development within the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University. Gaiss recalls her life as a Dominican nun, teaching high school, and her interest in philosophy and ethics. She recalls coming to work at MSU in 1974, techniques she used to train physicians in ethical considerations, making rounds, and the value of being in contact with patients while learning and teaching ethics. She speaks fondly of about leaving MSU for another position, teaching ethics at Lansing Community College for 25 years, working with community groups, teaching care and ethics to clergy, cancer patients, and families, and helping found Hospice of Lansing. She speaks fondly of Pediatrics and Human Development and says that her experiences in the department led to many other opportunities in her life. Retired department faculty member Dr. David J. Kallen, Professor Emeritus of Sociology, conducts the interview. Part of the MSU Department of Pediatrics and Human Development Oral History Project.

- Michigan State University Professor Emeritus of Economics C. Patrick "Lash" Larrowe, talks about his family and childhood in Portland, OR, how his interest in working class issues and unionism grew and why he chose economics as a way of teaching about labor issues. Larrowe describes his early union experiences while in college, joining the Association of Catholic Trade Unionists, his service in World War Two, getting his first professorship at the University of Utah, and finally coming to work at the Labor and Industrial Relations Center at MSU. Larrowe discusses settling in at MSU and the people he worked with including, Jack Stieber, Charles Killingsworth, and MSU President John Hannah. He also explains the tensions between the Labor School and state conservatives and why the MSU faculty grievance system was created in the face of professors being terminated. Larrowe says he left the Labor School and moved to the Economics Department when his research and published material was threatened with censorship. Larrowe is interviewed by John Revitte, MSU professor of Labor and Industrial Relations.

- Dr. Frank Telewski, Curator of the W.J. Beal Botanical Garden and Campus Arboretum at Michigan State University, delivers a talk entitled, "Tradition through the trees: trees on the MSU campus." Telewski discusses the many historic trees, such as the Ginko planted in 1863 on the hill where historic Beaumont Tower now stands, more recently planted trees, and how these trees are used in research, teaching, and outreach. Telewski answers questions from the audience. The event is convened by MSU Librarian Heidi Schroeder. Part of the Michigan State University Libraries' Environmental Series, held at the MSU Main Library.

- Former Michigan State University President Lou Anna K. Simon discusses her involvement with the MSU Faculty Grievance Policy (FGP) and the Faculty Grievance Official (FGO) when she served as MSU Provost and later as MSU President. Simon talks about the origins and evolution of the FGP, her experiences with several FGOs and changes to the FGP which she instituted. Simon also talks about the tension in universities between teaching and research, which she says affects hiring, tenure, salaries, promotions, and administrative priorities. She comments on the pressures of balancing the needs of the university with the wishes of the MSU Board of Trustees and the burden of being responsible for decisions made at every level of operation. Simon is interviewed by Robert Banks, former MSU associate provost and associate vice president for Academic Human Resources and John Revitte, former MSU professor of Human Resources and Labor Relations.

- Michigan State University sophomore James Porter talks about growing up on a farm in Heartland, MI, his family and siblings, and his parent's careers. He talks about the transition from high school to college, says that he is living off campus now and calls dorm life "insane". Porter says that in ten years he expects to be actor, but would be happy to have any job in professional theater. Theater life, he says, does not lend itself to starting a family.

- Elizabeth Byington describes her suburban Detroit family life and tells how her aspirations have changed between high school and her sophomore year at Michigan State University. Byington says she no longer has an immediate interest in marriage and children and has changed her major to something which she finds more satisfying. Byington also discusses her college experiences, the quality of her professors, career possibilities, and her hopes for the future. Byington says she expects to enjoy her future career and although her peers are much too focused on material things, she does not think that they deserve to be labeled the "me generation".

- In an oral history interview, Gladys Beckwith, professor emerita of American Thought and Language at Michigan State University, talks about earning her doctorate from MSU, staying on to teach and and later becoming interested in faculty governance issues and faculty unionization as she began to see that professors had little involvement in the decisions which affected them and the great disparity in faculty compensation between departments and gender. Beckwith also talks about suing MSU for sex discrimination, unsuccessful attempts by faculty to unionize, and colleges around the country using more and more part time faculty, which calls a national disgrace. Beckwith is interviewed by John Revitte, MSU professor of Labor and Industrial Relations and current Faculty Grievance Officer.

- Michael Rubner, Michigan State University's longest serving Faculty Grievance Official, talks about being born in Palestine and emigrating to the U.S., his education and what brought him to James Madison College at MSU in 1970. He also talks about why the FGO position interested him and his role in the creation of a grievance manual. Rubner says that he inherited an office which did not run smoothly and discusses the steps he took to improve things and that he decided to leave the position because of two faculty members who "made his life miserable". Rubner is interviewed by MSU Professor John Revitte, who himself is a former FGO. Revitte also reflects upon some of his experiences in the office and his revisions to the grievance manual.

- Keith Groty, former director of the Michigan State University School of Labor and Industrial Relations (SLIR), talks about his family, education and his career as a professor, labor mediator, arbitrator, and negotiator and finally becoming MSU's Assistant Vice President of Personnel and Employee Relations. Groty also talks about attempts to create a faculty union at MSU and the history of the MSU Faculty Grievance Office which he says was an attempt by the MSU to stop another push by faculty for unionization. - Michigan State University Engineering junior Becki Baszler talks about growing up on a small farm just outside of Cheboygan, Michigan and the changes she has witnessed in that community. Baszler reflects on her childhood career aspirations and explains how she settled on Engineering as a major. Baszler also describes her experiences as an engineering intern at General Motors and says she would rather work for a smaller company when she graduates. Baszler predicts marriage, family and career for herself over the next ten years amd says that she expects to be able to juggle family and career and achieve success.
