- Invitation note from Governor Hazen S. Pingree to the Michigan Legislature for a complimentary dinner on December 18, 1900 in the Executive Parlor of the Capitol. The note includes Pingree's signature and an orange embossed Michigan seal with a blue ribbon. An additional handwritten note states, "This invitation to the famous Pingree banquet reads that it would be in the 'Executive Parlor, Capital,' Finding that the parlor was not large enough it was held in Representative Hall."

A crowd of men, and several children are gathered around the Pingrees. A boarded walkway runs across the foreground, extending from wooden stairs on the left edge of the frame.

- Cabinet card bearing a sepia-toned photograph taken of uniformed soldiers and men in dark suits and hats escorting a wagon carrying Hazen S. Pingree's casket during his funeral procession on July 6, 1901. The photo is mounted on a black card with an embossed border.

- Envelope, preprinted with the return address, "Office of the Mayor, Detroit, Michigan, addressed to Hazen S. Pingree at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. The envelope is postmarked January 3, 1894. The envelope was opened on its right edge. One stamp has been torn off, the other, is a 2¢ stamp Columbian issue.

- Description:
- Hazen S. Pingree's military discharge papers from his service in the 1st Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Heavy Artillery unit during the Civil War. The top left corner is stamped, "Paid in full by Maj. A. Brodhead, Paymaster U.S.A." The form reads: To all whom it may Concern: Know ye, That Hazen S. Pingree a Private of Captain Joseph H. Clark Company, M, First Regiment of Mass. Heavy Arty Volunteers, who was enrolled on the 4th day of March one thousand eight hundred and sixty four to serve three years or during the war, is hereby Discharged from the service of the United States this 16th day of August 1865, at Washington District of Columbia by reason of S.C. No. 1940 [?] Dept. of Washington. (No objection to his being re-enlisted is know to exist.*) Said Hazen S. Pingree was born in Denmark in the state of Maine, is Twenty three years of age, Five feet Ten inches high, Light complexion, Blue eyes, Light hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a Soldier. Given at Fort [...], this 16th day of August 1865. A blank oath of identity form is on the verso.

- Description:
- Handwritten letter with envelope from writer Julian Hawthorne in Philadelphia, to Eli Ransom Sutton of the University of Michigan, postmarked May 12, 1902, concerning the prospect of writing a biography of Hazen S. Pingree. The letter is on Colonial Press stationery, however the letterhead has been crossed out. The letter reads: 1208 Spruce St. Phila. April 23, 1902 My dear Sutton, I have [?] considered your letter, and this is what I think. You have been at a lot of pains about the thing, out of [?], and I want to do all possible in the [?]. If the book is to be such as I can be[?] in four months. I am willing to undertake it for $2500, and half of whatever royalties may come in after this sum has been [?] by then[?]. The $2500 to be paid to me upon the ratifying of this understanding. The materials on [?] to be sent to me here, and I will then engage to furnish[?] the complete copy for the book, 350pp on or before Oct. 1st 1902. If Mrs. Pingree consents[?] to this, I would like to have the above minimum[?] fulfilled in[?] once. Of course I regret, on other accounts besides my own. There the book is to be curtailed: it would have made a splendid 2-vol. work. But I will do my best with it out of regard for the subject, one of the best of Americans. - Half-folded handwritten letter and envelope sent by Hazel Hope Pingree on behalf of her mother Frances Pingree to Mrs. Emma Stark Hampton of 970 Woodward Avenue concerning the funeral for Hazen S. Pingree, postmarked July 1st, 1901. Both the letter and the envelope are on black-bordered paper indicating mourning. The note reads: Mrs. Pingree would appreciate your [presence?] at the funeral services of her husband, which takes place on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. Should you desire to accompany the family to the cemetery - carriages will be provided. Kindly reply.
