- Calvin tells of growing up in Arkansas, working at a unionized shoe factory in St. Louis, moving to Michigan and being hired in November 1949 and being placed on one of the worst jobs. He describes his frustration with racism, sexism and unfairness. Calvin provides several examples of conflict and his eventual move to skilled trades as the first black in Jig & Fixture repair. He discusses being a strike captain during the 1970 strike.

- Lloyd talks about being hired in November 1951, his first day in Trim putting on door handles and receiving no orientation. He describes the swing shift, having no breaks, use of foul language, and some pranks. Lloyd talks about his union involvement and 15 years as a committeeman, being a strike captain in the 1960s, and preventing the delivery of paychecks to the plant during a strike.

- Frank tells of being hired in August 1969 and working in the cushion room. He recalls receiving a copy of the union contract on his first day, the 1970 strike for 30 and Out, living on strike pay of $25 a week, and performing picket duty. Frank tells how he became a substance abuse counselor for the GM/UAW Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) and how he has appreciated the union.

- This collection was generated by Lansing publisher and sports enthusiast Virgil Vandenburg primarily during the time he published the "Lansing Labor News" and the "Capitol Bulletin." There is a great deal of advertising related correspondence and sample material. Virgil Vandenburg was involved in recreation-league athletics and especially became a leader in chess activities, though his chess related information is not strongly represented in the collection. The collection includes considerable automotive industry promotional material, information on local, state, and federal labor/civil service issues, other sample publications, information on local clubs and organizations, and some personal material. There are runs of alphabetical subject and correspondence files, and a section of portrait photographs included in the collection as well.

- This collection contains files for each address that was researched toward the publication of the "Thematic Survey of Early Automotive History in Lansing, Michigan from 1890 to 1930" by the Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. The survey, which was published in July of 2003, was contracted by the City of Lansing. Supporting area groups included the Stewardship Community Board of the MotorCities-Automotive National Heritage Area, the Lansing Historic District Commission, the Lansing Planning Office and the State Historic Preservation Office, among others. Fifty-two sites comprising 60 buildings were surveyed. Twenty-six of those were determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. All 52 sites were listed in an ANHA database (not publicly available as of June 2017). This collection is organized by street address. Within each file, the following items are usually contained: -Photocopies of site from Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps -Photocopies of City of Lansing Assessor records - property and real estate inventory detailed files -Photocopies of newspaper clippings, most from the Capital Area District Libraries' biographical and subject clippings files -Printouts from the ANHA Resource Site Data database for each site Occasionally a file will also contain: -Photocopies from Capital Area District Libraries' Stebbins Real Estate Collection -Handwritten original and photocopied notes from Mannik & Smith research staff -Photocopied photographs from City of Lansing Assessor -Photocopied journal or magazine articles about businesses or individuals from a variety of sources Within the files, there is a great deal of overlap and duplication due to the complex history of automotive and related businesses in the Lansing area.
