- Color postcard depicting people on a bridge over the Lily Pond on Belle Isle. Printed on verso: Lily Pond on Belle Isle. Detroit's principal recreation spot is an island in the Detroit river connecting with the city by a bridge, 8 feet less than half a mile in length. It comprises 702 acres, is over two miles long and boasts over 20 miles of fine macadam roadway which completely circles and frequently intersects it. A fine zoo, aquarium, horticultural building, swimming and skating pavilions, casino and boat livery are in connection. The city has expended over $1,500,000 on it since its purchase in 1879. Printed on verso: the Aquarium and Horticultural Buildings on Belle Isle are among the most popular attraction on the island. In the Aquarium will be found all kinds of fresh wand salt water fish. The Commission brings the water direct from the ocean for the latter. In the Horticultural building are domestic and tropical plants and shrubbery, making it a veritable paradise. Belle Isle is in the Detroit River between Detroit and Windsor, Canada. The Island contains 702 acres and is entirely covered with one of the most beautiful parks in the United States, having some 21 miles of Macadam Roads; a magnificent Casino; Pavilions; Boat Houses; Aquarium; Horticultural Hall and Zoological Gardens. The island was purchased by Detroit in 1879, and has since then expended $1,600,000 in beautifying it. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Jul 29, 1914.

The Detroit Boat Club is one of the most exclusive social and athletic organizations in Detroit. Its handsome home on Belle Isle near the bridge was erected in 1902 to replace one destroyed by fire. The building is one of the finest of its kind in the world. Its members enjoy unusual facilities for their favorite sport of rowing, which they combine with sailing and canoeing. Their balls feature the summer in Detroit society. In front of the bridge entrance to the club is one of the finest flower beds on the Island. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Dec 8, 1915.

Horticultural building and Bathing Pavilion with 1,000 private rooms. Belle Isle was purchased by Detroit in 1879 and the city has spent $2,000,000 to make it an enjoyable spot for her citizens and guests. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked May 27, 1919.
