- This collection was generated by Lansing publisher and sports enthusiast Virgil Vandenburg primarily during the time he published the "Lansing Labor News" and the "Capitol Bulletin." There is a great deal of advertising related correspondence and sample material. Virgil Vandenburg was involved in recreation-league athletics and especially became a leader in chess activities, though his chess related information is not strongly represented in the collection. The collection includes considerable automotive industry promotional material, information on local, state, and federal labor/civil service issues, other sample publications, information on local clubs and organizations, and some personal material. There are runs of alphabetical subject and correspondence files, and a section of portrait photographs included in the collection as well.

- Mary Louise Crowell shares what life was like at home prior to, during, and after WW II. With the US involvement in WW II, Mary explains what it meant to take an active role in the war at home like saving lard, oil, tin cans, and using ration books. During the war, Mary worked for the Civil Service at Fort Custer as a clerk typist and attended many of the USO events. When WW II ended, Mary married her soldier, Jim Crowell, and together they raised two children.

- Photo of Dorothy Leonard Judd (Mrs. Siegel W. Judd) holding a booklet that she edited entitled "Our City Government." Judd, a graduate of Vassar College, became active in the League of Women Voters in the 1920 and 1930s. She later turned her concern to cleaning up local government in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She also worked for the development of Civil Service and higher education. Photo was taken for the Grand Rapids Herald on March 5, 1948 and ran in the Herald the next day.
