- Description:
- This scrapbook contains approximately 100 pages of newspaper clippings collected by Alfred Seymour. The clippings cover a wide variety of topics and people, many of whom appear to have been friends and acquaintances of Chief Seymour from Detroit, Lansing, and elsewhere. Many of the clippings are local obituaries and marriage announcements. There are several loose items in the book, including some receipts for tuition at M.A.C. and membership in women's guilds for Maude Seymour. Due to the item's fragility it has not been digitized in full, only its cover. An index to death notices, obituaries, engagement, marriage, and anniversary announcements found in the scrapbook is linked below. Most announcements do not include a date or newspaper source. Contact the library for more information.

- Description:
- This is a collection of death notices from the Lansing State Republican newspaper for the years 1855 to 1872, which Forest Parke Library and Archives staff and volunteers extracted from the microfilm in 2011 and 2012, and again in 2015. Because there is no index to the Lansing State Republican, it is not known if this collection is a comprehensive representation of all death notices that appeared in those years. The notices have been grouped into one PDF file for each year and are keyword searchable. The date each notice appeared in the paper is included within the files. Some files are large and may take time to open or download. An alternative to these annual listings is an index covering the years 1855 to 1883 that was compiled by Capital Area District Libraries volunteers in the late 1990s. The accuracy and comprehensiveness of this index have not been verified. This document can be accessed here.

- Description:
- Two scrapbooks of material collected by Marie and Lloyd Weyant of Lansing. The Weyants were long-time telephone company employees who later operated the Airport Grille, a restaurant near the Lansing airport, as well as a sister restaurant near the Grand Rapids airport in Kent County. Their daughter Marion "Babe" Weyant (later Ruth) was a well-known pilot. Mrs. Weyant also ran a business selling paper goods such as napkins and stationery. The scrapbooks consist primarily of clippings and greeting cards. The clippings are generally Lansing State Journal articles of human interest (obituaries, articles about a person's retirement, anniversaries) or articles from a variety of sources on state and national topics, such as the governor of Michigan or the Kennedy family. Greeting cards include birthday, mother's and father's day, and other holiday cards from the Weyants' children and others. There are also high school graduation announcements from Lansing and other schools in Michigan, and a number of funeral cards. Of note is a large advertisement inside the front cover of one scrapbook for a new brand of beer being sold at the Frank Preuss market in Lansing, undated. There is a silk first place ribbon in the Antler category from the M. A. C. Farmers Week in 1942. Some material from the International Order of Job's Daughters and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 30 (both Dewitt, Mich.) dating to the early 1960s is also included. Due to the fragility of these scrapbooks the contents have not been digitized. Contact the library for more information or to access the materials.
