- Resolution printed on a large piece of cardstock, from the Board of Trustees honoring James R. Elliott upon his retirement. The document has an ornate header consisting of the letters "FFA," surrounded by vines, and a firefighter's bugle. The resolution reads: Detroit, Mich. May 1st 1896. At a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Detroit Firemen's Fund Association, held April 9th 1896, the retiring board adopted the following set of resolutions. Whereas, James R. Elliott has been an active member of this Board since its inception and taken great interest in the affairs of the Firemen's Fund Association and Whereas, we the members of the Board desire to show our appreciation to him for the conspicuous service has so freely rendered, and Whereas, the preservation of this Organization has been largely due to the wise methods he has inaugurated. Be it therefore resolved, that we the members of the retiring Board extend to our retiring Treasurer, James R. Elliott, our sincerest thanks and heartiest commendation for his invaluable services, and Be it further resolved, that this set of Resolutions be engrossed suitably framed, and presented to Chief James R. - Detroit Fire Department active duty certificate, engraved by Capewell and Kimmel, and issued to Louis Specht on May 14, 1857. The document bears the signatures of President Jerome Croul, Treasurer Alexander Paton, and Secretary Benjamin Vernor, beside a silver embossed Fire Department of the City of Detroit seal. Hand-colored illustrations of uniformed firefighters, an early fire apparatus and firefighting equipment, the seal of the State of Michigan, and Neptune flanked by two winged monsters are bordered by scrollwork. The number "12" has been added to the helmets of the firefighters and to the apparatus, likely indicating Specht's involvement in Woodbridge Fire Company No. 12. "Great grand father of Daneil Murray Embach," has been handwritten in the lower left corner.

- Detroit Fire Department active duty certificate, engraved by Capewell and Kimmel, and issued to John McDuff on April 24, 1858. The document bears the signatures of President Robert E. Roberts, Treasurer Alexander Paton, and Secretary Benjamin Vernor, as well as the signing date, March 15, 1858, beside a blue embossed Fire Department of the City of Detroit seal. Hand-colored illustrations of uniformed firefighters, firefighting equipment, the seal of the State of Michigan, and Neptune flanked by two winged monsters are bordered by scrollwork. The number "4" has been added to the helmets of the firefighters and to the apparatus, indicating McDuff's involvement in Lafayette Fire Company No. 4. "When danger calls we are prompt to fly / and bravely do or bravely die," has been handwritten around the upper arc of the large central circular motif. Illustrations of the fire engine of Lafayette Company No. 4, another pair of early apparatuses, and a sepia-toned photograph of Lafayette Company No. 4's apparatus on Wayne Street in front of their fire station near Larned Street, are pasted onto the certificate.

- Running book used by Martin Cooney, Superintendent of Horses for the Detroit Fire Department, as indicated by a handwritten note on the inside cover. The first page contains regulations concerning the answering of fire alarms from Chief James Broderick, dated February 1, 1902. The book contains nine sections, each corresponding to a numbered tab. Each page contains a ledger with the number and cross streets of the city's fire alarms, along with fields for recording the number of the engine company, ladder company, hose company, water tower company, supply company, and number of officers to respond to each. The book is bound in black cloth-covered cover, with faint handwriting in pencil along the edge adjacent to the spine. A hole has been made through the book at the upper left corner.

- Sepia-toned albumen photo of the Firemen's Memorial in Elmwood Cemetery. The Memorial consists of a round white stone column (probably marble) that is mounted on an ornate carved, 4-sided white stone base. A carved figure of a fireman, who is shown with a downcast gaze, is standing on top of the column. The front of the base shows a raised carving of a fireman's helmet and the lettering, "Firemen." A planted flower bed occupies the area around the monument base. Also, there are two large flower urns on each side of the monument. Several ornamental fire hydrants are visible in the foreground and gravestones can be seen in the area beyond the flower bed.

- Sepia-toned photo of a fire at the Detroit News. The view is probably looking eastward on W. Fort Street with the Old Post Office building visible on the far left side of the photo adjacent to the "Postal Telegraph Office" signs. Snow can be seen on the street and a horse-drawn sled is visible near the center of the photo. A smoky haze hangs overhead along the street in the background. Many spectators are standing in the street and fire hoses can be seen in the snow.

Garr at the upper left corner, bottom left corner, and lower right corner. The top center image is of B. Cronin and D. Breen leading the horse drawn fire engine No. 3 out of their firehouse. A small unlabeled photo of what appears to be a hose apparatus is at the upper right. Several firefighters posed with the 1st automotive of Company No. 3 are pictured at the center left. A shot of the firefighter-lined ladder apparatus of Ladder Company No. 1 labeled as the "Bull Moose," in front of a wall painted with a sign for the Detroit News is positioned on the center right edge. Engine Company No. 3's automotive and Ladder Company No 3's apparatus are pictured racing down the street at the bottom of the composition. The matting is decorated with scrollwork and chain patterns.

The photo shows a horse-drawn fire engine with one fireman in the driver's seat, three firemen standing on the sidewalk, and two firemen standing beside the rear wheel of the fire engine. Several bystanders are also visible. A brick fire station building is visible in the background. Four square decorative motifs that represent various tools of the fire department can be seen be seen along the face of the fire station building.
