Two fire department ladders are visible on the left side of the building, one is at the front, and another is at the far right side. One of the fire department ladder company wagons (number not visible) and a steam pumper can be seen in the lower right area of the photo. Many spectators can be seen on the streets adjacent to the church. Handwriting on the verso shows "First Congregational Church, built 1863, Fort & Wayne Streets, later used by Detroit Journal."
