He served on the Governor's Citizen's Committee on Higher Education, was a member of the Kalamazoo County Board of Supervisors, the City Commission, was president of the Kalamazoo Community Chest and was president of the Kalamazoo Academy of Medicine. He was chairman of the board of the Upjohn Company of Kalamazoo.
