- British actors pose for a photograph in this scene from a play in the theater at Schweidnitz. Theatricals were a very popular form of entertainment for British prisoners of war in prison camps across Germany during the war.

- This is an example of a French concert program from the prison camp at Zossen. The two-part program lists the music and identifies the performers that sing with the camp choir. The choir was supported by an orchestra and organ. This program appeared in the German magazine "Der Krieg" and gave the German people an idea of what prisoners did for entertainment in prison camps.

- Prisoner of War guard duty was almost as monotonous for the guards as it was for the prisoners (although the penalties for German guards caught in the dereliction of duty encouraged greater vigilance). In this drawing of the guard room at Magdeburg, German troops enjoy some holiday festivities with tankards of beer, carol singing, and a decorated Christmas tree.

- A view of the interior of the greenhouse that the members of the Ruhleben Horticultural Society constructed on the grounds of the prison camp at Ruhleben. This nursery allowed members to grow flowers throughout the entire year.

- British, Russian, French, and Belgian prisoners of war cram into the reading room of the YMCA hall at Goettingen. They have access to books and pre-war magazines in the Association library. To maximize capacity within the hall, the YMCA provided benches, but not tables.

- Four prisoners of war are dressed in costume in the prison compound at Heuberg, probably in preparation for a theatrical performance. Men played all of the roles in any performance.

- This French medical corpsman, Leon Pailet, represented the French prisoners of war at the prison camp at Goettingen. He was equipped with a desk, an ample supply of stationery, a large book collection, and has flowers for decoration. He also has a pet cat to spend time with during his incarceration.

- Prisoners perform an outdoor concert and theatrical performance for sick and wounded prisoners in the courtyard of the hospital at Grafenwoehr. These performances helped lift the spirits of men recovering from illnesses or wounds.
