- Notes:
- Skilled craftsmen provided important services to prisoners in prison camps. This is the interior of the tailor shop at Muensingen in which French prisoners repair uniforms. The working conditions are very good in this shop; the prisoners have access to light from the large window and electric light, warmth from the wood stove, and a variety of tools, including a sewing machine.

- A military funeral possession marches to the cemetery outside the prison camp at Ohrdruf. The dead inmate is a French soldier and his comrades serve as pall-bearers in the funeral. The casket is followed by a German officer and chaplains as well as some of the deceased's comrades.

- French prisoners of war work in the prison laundry at Goettingen. Two prisoners operate a laundry press while the other POW's pull open special drying racks which hang from nails. Clean laundry was an important task in keeping prisoners healthy through the elimination of vermin.

- French and Russian prisoners relax outside their barrack in Koenigsbrueck one afternoon. The men are spending their time reading, playing cards, or engrossed in a chess game under the supervision of two German guards.

- A German doctor bandages a prisoner's leg in the dispensary at Muensingen in this cartoon. The doctor has quite a bit of work ahead of him as prisoners wait their turn for medical attention. Note that most of the POW's are wearing wooden shoes due to the lack of leather in Germany by the end of the war. The doctor appears to be a cavalry officer since he is wearing spurs inside the clinic.

- A group of six French prisoners of war pose for a picture in the compound yard at Wetzlar. This photograph affords a view of the barracks in this camp. One of the French prisoners (identified by his uniform and boots) is wearing a Russian Cossack hat.

- French and Russian prisoners work on shoes and boots in the cobbler shop at Merseberg. The men are busy making new shops and boots or repairing worn out footwear. These skilled laborers provided an important service in the prison camps and unskilled prisoners gained the opportunity to learn a new trade during their captivity. German guards stand in the back of the shop.

- German authorities often provided prisoners with recognized talent special treatment so they could pursue their vocations. In this photograph, a French POW, Morales, who worked as an artist for the magazine "Illustration," had his own studio at Muenster III to continue practicing his art.

- French orderlies provide care for the sick and wounded Allied prisoners in a hospital ward at Giessen. The beds are full of recovering soldiers and the ward is well heated by the large stoves in the center aisle of the building. While many of the patients can sit up for the photo, one of the African prisoners appears quite ill. Four prisoners are playing a card game in the center of the ward.
