- Taken during the dedication of the I-496 Crosstown Expressway, also known as the Oldsmobile Expressway or Olds Highway. This brand-new 1970 Oldsmobile Toronado led the opening of I-496 at a ceremony on Friday morning, December 18, 1970. View is of the westbound lanes at the bridge over Cedar Street and the Grand River.

- At the time of the photo, these churches were present: the largest, Lansing Church of God in Christ, at 1100 West St. Joseph Street, was on the northwest corner at South Logan Street. To the left, at 1112 West St. Joseph Street, was the new Mount Calvary Church. To the right, on the east side of South Logan Street, was Galilee Baptist Church at 1026 West St. Joseph Street. Recently opened Interstate Highway 496, in the foreground, displaced many homes, churches and businesses in the area.
