- Portrait of Ellen Browning Scripps, sister of J.E. Scripps founder of the Detroit News, written on front of photo, "Powelson, Detroit." "When her brother, James E., founded the Detroit Evening News in August, 1873, she joined him, investing her savings in the project, at that time the country was suffering a severe depression and the public at large was in a panicky state of mind, drawing money out of banks and refusing to invest in projects of any kind, in the face of all this, Miss Scripps put her savings into the new venture, having faith in its outcome ... she retired and settled in La Jolla [California] in 1896, in her philanthropies no one knows just how much money Ellen Browning Scripps gave away during the last thirty years of her life, but it was in the millions, schools, colleges, hospitals, research institutions, children's playgrounds, zoological gardens, the Young Women's and Young Men's Christian associations, churches of many denominations, natural history societies and private individuals were the recipients of this generous woman's gifts and bequests," from the San Diego Historical Society's website.

- The Lansing Unity Club began in October of 1895 with 26 members. It was originally meant for women on the east side of the Grand River, and their activities included discussion of books, current events, history, science, and biographical topics. Group portrait; members are not identified.

- This collection contains photographs which were possibly collected or donated by the Johns family of Lansing. James Johns was an early Lansing resident who operated a boot and shoe business on Washington with partner Rufus Bailey, and then a grocery business with partner Jeremiah Bunn. The Johns family appears in city directories throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, usually at a residence on South Cedar Street near downtown Lansing. Among the 39 photographs are several tintypes. Only two of the photographs are identified. Many are formal studio portraits with dates of approximately 1865 to 1910. Some were taken outside of the Lansing area as noted by photographers' marks on the prints or frames.

- Henry and Edsel Ford stand in front of globe in the courtyard of the Ford Rotunda on Schaefer Road in Dearborn, Michigan designed by architect, Albert Kahn. "From 1936 to 1962, the gear-shaped Ford Rotunda attracted visitors from around the world, it was the fifth most popular tourist destination in the United States in the 1950s, the building had its roots in the 1933 Chicago World's Fair, known as the Century of Progress Exposition, which opened in May of 1933 and attracted more than 40 million visitors over its two-year run, one of the major attractions at the fair was Ford Motor Company's Rotunda, which was disassembled after the fair and brought back to Dearborn, where it was reconstructed using more permanent materials, designed to be the showcase of the auto industry, the Ford Rotunda was opened to the public on May 14, 1936, the original steel framework was covered with Indiana limestone, forming a design representing a stack of gears, decreasing in size towards the top, located on Schaefer Road, across from the Ford Administration building, the circular structure had an open courtyard 92 feet in diameter and a wing on either side ... besides its own attractions, the Rotunda served as the gateway for tours of the Rouge Plant, in 1960, the Rotunda ranked behind only Niagara Falls, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, The Smithsonian Institution and the Lincoln Memorial as a national tourist destination, it was more popular than Yellowstone, Mount Vernon, the Washington Monument and the Statue of Liberty," from Detroit News article, "When flames consumed a Christmas fantasy," by Jenny Nolan.
