- Three Russian prisoners of war with shovels unload a narrow gauge railway car full of potatoes in a German prison camp. A Landsturm guard supervises their work. Railways were critical for transporting supplies to prison facilities for daily operations.

- Prisoners of war are busy washing their laundry outdoors on the Hauptstrasse (Main Street) of the prison camp at Goettingen. This "street" was the main thoroughfare in the camp and was bordered by the barracks. A garden is in the foreground of the photograph which included both flowers and vegetables. These crops helped to diversify the prisoners' diets during the summer.

- Gravely wounded German and Russian soldiers lie on blankets and pillows on the floor of this building in Suwalki, Poland. These men's wounds were too serious to allow them to be transported to a field hospital for better care.

- Five Russian prisoners cut up wood scraps to prepare a fire to boil water to make tea in the prison compound at Hammerstein. The wooden barracks in the camp stand in the background. German authorities did not allow prisoners to cook inside of their barracks due to the threat of fire, although tea or water could be boiled on top of the heating stoves during the winter.

- The Germans employed prisoners with special skills to support camp operations. Russian POW's work on a number of projects inside the carpenter shop at Muensingen. They are building tables and cabinets with the various tools that are scattered around the workshop and on the walls. POW labor made prison camps self-supporting.

Two prisoners are busy cutting firewood to the right; behind them stands a one-story wooden barrack found in many German prison camps.

The presence of armed German guards suggest that these men will serve in labor detachments outside the facility during the day. A group of Allied medics are assembled in the middle of the photograph with their supplies.

- Russian prisoners carrying armloads of large loaves of bread form a double line to carry the bread shipment into the prison compound at Zerbst. While many prison camps had bakeries in the prison camp kitchen, German authorities often purchased bread rations from civilian bakers to meet daily rations.
